An Overnight Bushcraft Experience
This is a two day bushcraft experience that is a test of teamwork and leadership. You'll have an overnight camp in the woods under canvass.
Day one: The day starts by learning the principles of fire and how to make one using a primitive bow drill. You'll then move on to learn about how to use tools such as knives and axes safely.
This will lead us into lunch where you’ll need to prepare and cook your food based on a variety of locally sourced ingredients. This may even include bread making pizza or bannock bread in a skillet on an open fire.
After lunch you’ll be introduced to small game butchery, the results of which will be the base of your evening meal. The remainder of the afternoon you’ll explore shelter-building and design, both man-made and natural.
With your dinner cooking on the fire, you'll learn the art of spoon making and this will lead us into our evening meal of a freshly prepared game dish.
The rest of the evening is up to you - either perfecting your spoon making or enjoying company around the campfire - before retiring to sleep the night under canvass.
Day two: After a hearty breakfast you'll begin a your day with a leisurely stroll learning the basics of hedgerow foraging. With baskets at hand you’ll collect a variety of resources and ingredients and take them back to camp for later. You will then learn - and hopefully master - the art of cordage, which is making string and rope out of natural fibres. Lunch will be a 'feast and forage' experience where you’ll be able to prepare your freshly gathered ‘edibles’ and turn them into a palatable ‘tear and share’. We'll also throw in an oven-cooked joint of venison and seasonal vegetables to make sure no one goes hungry.
However, the experience is not over! With a variety of newly learnt skills your group will now need to bring them all together as a team and complete a time-sensitive challenge. Pulling on the resources and skills in your team you will need to work together to achieve the successful completion of the task.
After our team challenges we will conclude our day with a traditional longbow competition.
Our overnight programme offers a unique experience to learn new skills and develop leadership skills. Over two days, you'll have the opportunity to build confidence, self esteem, and identify those with real leadership potential.
As ever, the two-day session can be tailored to your needs. It can be as competitive - or relaxed - as you want. With more time to spend in the outdoors - along with the overnight experience - team morale is enhanced and stronger professional relationships are formed.
And if you're using this as part of your recruitment and training process, this can help ensure you are bringing the right candidates into your team and organisation.
